With Thanksgiving week upon us, food is no doubt on everyone’s mind.

If you were at my last Reset Dinner, I gave you a strategy to apply this Holiday season that will keep you weight down, energy up, AND let you eat all your favorite goodies.

One of those strategies is…DON’T EAT LESS, EAT LESS OFTEN

I know this is counter to everything you have ever been taught about eating, but stop and think about it for a moment. Are people getting thinner or heavier? Is obesity on the rise or declining in our country?

When you really think it through, you will see that our old ways of approaching nutrition are broken. And research is proving to us, that eating many small meals a day doesn’t speed up our metabolism, it actually makes us weight loss resistant.

If you want better health, you need to do the 180 degree opposite of what everyone else is doing.

So what does don’t eat less, eat less often mean?

You want to compress the time period in which you eat your food. Instead of eating all day long, you want to have a 15 hour time period where you are in a fasted state (no food only water) and 9 hour period where you are feasting.

A semi-fasted state does something miraculous to your body. It repairs your cells. It lowers inflammation. It unblocks receptor sites. It can pull you out of weight loss resistance and QUICKLY.

A feasted state also can be beneficial. Especially if you are giving your cells high quality nutrient dense food. I call this feasting period MITOCHONDRIAL MANAGEMENT.

Your mitochondria is the part of the cell that produces ATP. ATP gives you energy. If your cells are not producing enough ATP, you will not have enough energy to heal or function normally. It’s crucial that you keep your mitochondria healthy.

During your feasting period, I recommend my patients get over 50% of their food from good fat and eat as many vegetables as they can possibly get down them. This will allow the mitochondria to thrive.

This approach to your nutrition can make the holidays quite easy. If you know you are going to eat a big Thanksgiving meal, be sure you have fasted 15 hours before the meal.

If you felt like you overindulged on Thanksgiving, then do a 15 hour fast the following day.

It’s that simple. Give it a try.

One of the most harmful additives is Monosodium Glutamate. Otherwise known as MSG.

MSG is the ultimate flavor enhancer. Most people think of Chinese food when they think of MSG, but unfortunately, this harmful chemical is in many other foods as well.

MSG is a neurotoxin. That means it’s toxic to your nervous system, including your brain. Symptoms associated with ingesting MSG include:

  • headaches
  • heart arrhythmias
  • depression
  • skin rashes
  • itching
  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • seizures

It is also linked to obesity.

A 2008 study at the University of North Carolina looked at the diets of 752 men and women in China. Eighty percent of them added MSG to their cooking. They found that those who used MSG were three times more likely to be overweight than those who didn’t add the neurotoxin to their meal.

So how do you avoid this toxin? Should you stop eating Chinese food?

Well, it’s not that simple. MSG has many hidden names. The list below are some of the common names food companies use to hide MSG:

Well, you probably looked at the list above and thought, I see those words on every label I read.

Unfortunately, that is often the case. This is one of the reasons we felt so passionately about writing a Reset Factor cookbook.

Eat more good fat

When you restrict carbohydrates from your diet, you need to replace the calories with other foods. Research is now proving that the human body thrives on fat. But not bad fat, good fat. If you just pull carbs out and don’t add good fats in you will just be frustrated and hungry.

Low carb is not high protein

The biggest mistake that I see with when people go low carb is that they think that means unlimited protein. Too much protein turns to sugar in the body. When sugar goes up in your bloodstream, ketones go down. Moderate protein is the name of the game with a low carb diet, not unlimited protein.

Ketones are king

You have 72 trillion cells in your body. In each cell is something called a mitochondria. Current studies are proving that when the mitochondria malfunctions, disease builds in the body. What does the mitochondria need to function optimally? Ketones. The best way to get your body to secret ketones is through a high good fat, low carb diet.

There are several ways to measure your ketones. My favorite is with a precision ketone reader. Take a reading every morning. You want your readings to be between .5-5.0.

When it comes to nutrition, the first thing you need to look for are quality ingredients. Whether you are going gluten free, paleo, or counting points, you need to always look for fresh non-chemical laden ingredients.

Protein is a great example. Non-organic protein is packed with antibiotics, growth hormone, PCBs, and dioxins. Chemicals that will build cancer, destroy your gut, and put you on a fast track to a malfunctioning thyroid.

If you decide to lower your carbs and replace it with TOXIC proteins, you will NOT build yourself a healthy body. So read labels. Buy high quality fresh food. And you will reap the benefits.

6 Reasons To Eat Pemmican and DIY Video Guide



American frontiersman didn’t have MREs, but they did have Pemmican.

Pemmican is a portable, long-lasting, high-energy food that was invented by Native Americans. It’s made of lean, dried meat that’s crushed into powder and mixed with hot, rendered fat. You can even add dried fruit for taste, and the best part is just a handful will sustain a full-grown man or woman all day long – even while working. This makes it a great food to have in an emergency, especially if you’re on the move, because:

* It saves you time, something that’ll be in short supply when SHTF, and you’ll never have to worry about cooking, gathering ingredients or even washing dishes. All of which will be vastly more difficult during power outages, disaster, or even periods of violence (among many others), when the last thing you need is to alert troublemakers with the smell of home cooking, provoking danger. Letting you focus on what really matters, without distraction – or boiling water, unlike the majority of modern-day survival meals.

* It lasts for decades. Meaning you won’t have to worry about canning or storing food, expiry dates, or even bacteria creeping into your stockpile, making you sick, and threatening your family, all thanks to a needless blunder.

* It’s healthy and can be eaten on the move. It’s basically old-time fast food that’s actually good for you. Proving natural fats aren’t bad. In fact, they’re absolutely necessary, because eating exclusively lean meat could cause diarrhea, which kills 2,195 children every day. That’s more than AIDS, malaria and measles combined.

There are even tales of Canadian trappers who ate nothing but rabbit meat, who – because they didn’t get any fat, actually died of malnutrition, while stuffing their face!
Native Americans also used Pemmican while travelling. It was their war ration. After all, just picture hauling containers, crammed with “survival soup”, eggs or anything else you need, over miles and miles. Why suffer when you don’t have to? Whereas pemmican is energy rich and light enough to fit snugly into a bug-out bag.

* It’s cheap food, without any harmful additives. This is especially true if you raise your own meat, and don’t like to waste any part of your animal. Everything for it can be found at your local grocery store. Unlike survival options online, which often cost the modern prepper tens of thousands, stealing money away from your other projects, whilst flooding your blood with dangerously high levels of salt, sodium, sugar, and other harmful substances.
It tastes great, just like meat jerky only sweeter, beating MREs and other survival food effortlessly. It even comes in a variety of flavors, depending how you cook it. Making it a great morale booster for distraught family members – particularly young children, who want to live like a modern cowboy.

* It’s a respected life skill. Meaning once SHTF, and everyone starts to panic about what happens next, you’ll be a lighthouse in a storm, safe in the knowledge you see options where others don’t. You’ll even increase your personal value, forging alliances with those you choose, and resourcefully shielding your loved ones, like the inventive frontiersman of old. In fact, Pemmican is so respected, it was the standard ration of explorers, adventurers and soldiers for years from Antarctica, to North America to Africa. Without it, arctic exploration was impossible – nothing else was efficient enough to carry, and the British relied on it to conquer Africa, welding iron rations of Pemmican to their belts for use in emergency, whereupon a man was expected to march for 36 hours straight on just a handful, before collapsing from fatigue, but far enough from danger to rest easy.

Non-organic Conventional Pasteurized Milk

Research has found that a glass of milk can contain a cocktail of as many as twenty painkillers, antibiotics, and growth hormones. It also contains estrogen-mimicking hormones that can lead to breast cancer and other hormonal imbalances.

Avoid pasteurized milk at all costs.

Organic Pasteurized Milk

This is a better option than non-organic milk, but it still has it’s challenges. The pasteurization process kills ALL the good bacteria that you find in milk making this a dead food. So many people drink milk for the calcium, but the pasteurization process kills the calcium content as well.

Better option than conventional milk. Still not a health food.

Grass-Fed Organic Milk

Grass-Fed Organic Milk

When a cow is fed grass it increases it’s omega 3 content. Omega 3’s nourish the brain, lubricate the joints, and lowers cellular inflammation. But this milk is still pasteurized, killing much of it’s beneficial qualities and probiotic capabilities.

Better option than organic milk. If raw milk was not available and you wanted a cow’s milk to choose, this is the one I would choose.

Raw Organic Milk

Raw Organic Milk

Since raw milk hasn’t gone through the pasteurization process, it still has all the beneficial nutrients in it that milk can provide you. It’s the highest in calcium, omega 3’s, and rich in good bacteria to keep your gut healthy. The only challenge is that it is hard to find. Local farmer’s markets are your best option. Sprout’s health food market also carries it.

This is my favorite cow’s milk option to feed my family.

Goats Milk

Goat’s Milk

Goat’s milk is a great alternative for people who have trouble digesting cow’s dairy. Goat’s milk has a protein molecule called beta A1 casein. This molecule is easier for the human digestive system to breakdown. If you know you have a cow’s milk allergy, try goat’s milk.

If you find this milk raw and organic, it is one of the healthiest milks you can drink.

Nut Milk

If you want to avoid cow’s and goat’s milk all together, then nut milk is a great solution. High in protein and low on the glycemic index, nut milks are great to add to smoothies. When buying nut milk be sure it’s organic, unsweetened, and free from harmful fillers like carrageenan. The higher quality nut milks will be found in the refrigerator section of your grocery store.

Coconut and Hemp Milks

Another great option to cow’s dairy. Higher in omega 3’s than nut milk. Same rules apply here as nut milk when it comes to sweeteners and fillers. Unsweetened, refrigerated, and no carrageenan. If you can find a combo of coconut and hemp that will increase the protein content of the milk.

Love this milk! This is my favorite to put in smoothies due to it’s sweeter taste.

A good rule of thumb is to switch your milk’s around. With the exception of conventional milk, they all have different benefits.

A study published in Science magazine found that mice without a protein known as toll-like receptor 5 (TLR5) in their gut gain excessive weight and develop full-blown diabetes and fatty liver disease when fed a high-fat diet.

Think of the gut flora as a community, TLR5 is like a neighborhood police force that can keep the bad guys in check. Without TLR5, bad bacteria can get out of control.

The study authors found that these bad bacteria caused a low-grade inflammation in the mice, which caused them to eat more and develop insulin resistance.

But the most interesting part of this study is what happened when the researchers transferred the gut flora from the TLR5-deficient overweight mice into the guts of skinny mice: the skinny mice immediately started eating more and eventually developed the same metabolic abnormalities the overweight mice had.

In other words, obesity and diabetes were “transferred” from one group of mice to the other simply by changing their gut flora.

Does that mean you should rush out and start taking a high dose probiotic?

Not necessarily. When it comes to a healthy microbiome, diversity is key. One of the greatest places you can get good bacteria from is food. And the best food to eat to improve your gut bacteria is Sauerkraut.

Sauerkraut literally has trillions of good bacteria in it. One cup a day is like miracle grow for your gut flora.

Weight loss is not the only reason to eat sauerkraut. Adding good bacteria into your diet through foods is also known to:

Did you know that you have an inflammation switch inside you? One that can easily be turned on by your lifestyle.

Most doctors and scientists would agree that the root cause of many chronic health conditions is too much inflammation. Chronic inflammation has been linked to cancer, autoimmune disease, weight loss resistance, chronic pain, diabetes, depression, and even Alzheimers.

If you want to live in a disease free body that feels great, you’re going to have to figure out what turns OFF your switch.

There are three ways you can turn off your INFLAMMATION SWITCH.

Pain Switch

 Stop doing the behavior that turned the switch on

No doubt this is easier said than done. But here are some of the conditions that turn on your inflammation switch:

-chronic stress
-poor eating
-eating GMO foods
-toxic overload
-medications you are on for years
-antibiotics
-multiple surgeries
-damage to your spine
-lack of movement
-poor sleep

The first step in turning off your inflammation switch is to fix the above conditions and behaviors.

When I first work with a patient, I am constantly scanning their health history to see where they turned their inflammation switch on. Usually the switch gets turned on in childhood, and because we are a culture of fixing problems with medications, the switch never gets turned off. The medication may temporarily reduce the inflammation, but it places more damage on the body initating a greater inflammatory problem. This is why one medication often leads to another.

Repair the damage that has caused the switch to be turned on

If you want to turn the switch off for good you need to repair the damage that has occurred. The best systems to start with are your nervous system, gut, and liver. If you fix the damage here, the body has no reason to inflame.

If you haven’t read The Reset Factor or tried the 45-day Reset, that is a GREAT place to start to turn off your switch. I also love the biomarker test we do in my office. It tells me what systems in the body are depleted and need repair in order for your inflammation to go down.

Take a natural advil

If you know that chronic inflammation is an issue for you as you are repairing the breakdowns in your body, try taking high doses of turmeric and omega 3 fish oils.

I call this my natural advil. There are literally thousands of great studies done on these two supplements and the power they have on reducing inflammation. I recommed it in high doses. Especially if you are in chronic pain. Email me and I will send you my protocol.

Once again, my mom is right.

For years, she has been talking about how great it feels to get her hands in the dirt in her garden.

“It does something for my soul” she will often say.

Well science is now proving that there is something to her theory.

In dirt lives a good bacteria called Mycobacterium vaccae. When exposed to this bacteria, patients reported increases in their quality of life, including a brighter mood.

The dirt-and-Prozac connection surfaced a couple of years ago when a study was done at the University of Bristol and University College London. They exposed lung cancer patients to this common, inoffensive microbe called Mycobacterium vaccae, found in soil. Researchers found that this bacteria stimulated the production of seratonin, our happy hormone.

This study has lead scientists to wonder if our obsession with keeping ourselves, and especially our kids, clean may be contributing to a larger growing health problem; depression.

With advancements in technology, we have become an indoor culture. Glued to our xboxes, TV’s, laptops, and smartphones has created more cases of moodiness, anxiety, and depression. This is becoming such a common problem, doctors are now calling it “Nature Deficiency Disorder”

So next time you are feeling blue, ask yourself “When was the last time I went for a hike, went camping, or played in my veggie garden?”

It might just be the fastest path to a happy brain.
